Inspired by 斗拱(Donggong) in traditional Chinese flying cornices, the staircase is constructed with interlocking friction joints and cantilevered at the base. It's an architectural technique that uses no nails or glue. I made it in Eaglebrook's woodshop, cutting and trimming each piece using the chop saw, table saw, belt sander, and chisel.
